The Army recently changed their rifle qualification course to better meet the needs of soldiers. The Army rifle qualification prepares soldiers for lethal fire in combat situations. Soldiers practice with the weapons assigned to them according to their job in the Army. There are six phases of training.
Table IV, Basic, is a live-fire condition used for basic skills training at a reduced tempo. For rifle, Soldiers must place eight of 10 consecutive rounds within the four-centimeter aiming point on the A8 zero target and then confirm their zero at 300 meters by hitting an e-type silhouette four out of five times.
Units should conduct rifle qualification on a standard record fire range. Convenience and comfort should not be the prime consideration when choosing a range. The KD alternate course is used by all components of the active Army, US Army Reserve, and Army National Guard when a standard record fire range is not available.
